CANDIDATE STATEMENT

MELODY BOYD FOR REGION 7 DIRECTOR

I am excited to officially announce my candidacy for CFA Region 7 Director. Our region has a rich history and a vibrant community of breeders and exhibitors, and I am committed to ensuring we continue to thrive.

My campaign is built on a simple promise: 𝑯𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒕, 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆.

My Vision for Region 7 is represented by the symbols of my campaign:
• 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐥 & 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡): We must protect the standards and traditions that make the Cat Fanciers' Association the gold standard of pedigreed cats.

• 𝐀 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫): I am focused on growth—reaching new audiences, supporting our shows, and elevating the profile of Region 7 and CFA.

• 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 & 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬): Success doesn’t happen by accident. It requires the "gears" of collaboration, transparency, and modernizing our approach to regional management.

𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒐. Together, we can build a region that is efficient, inclusive, and dedicated to the welfare and promotion of our feline friends.

I would appreciate your vote and your support. Let’s get to work!

WHY I AM RUNNING

Why Now?

Running for CFA Regional Director is a significant commitment, but it’s an opportunity to bridge the gap between the administrative functions of the association and the daily realities of breeders and exhibitors.

Here are my primary motivations for stepping into this leadership role:

1. Strengthening Communication and Transparency

One of the most vital roles of a Regional Director is acting as a two-way conduit. My goal is to ensure that the voices of Region 7 clubs and members are not just heard, but effectively represented at the board level. Conversely, it is essential to bring back clear, timely, and transparent updates regarding board decisions so that everyone feels informed and included in the direction of the CFA.

2. Supporting Clubs and Show Production

As someone deeply involved in organizing shows—from the "A Mew Hope" events to New Vision Cat Club's annual "Spring Spectacular" show , I understand the logistical and financial hurdles clubs face. I want to use this position to:

  • Mentor new show managers and help clubs navigate the complexities of licensing and venue management.
  • Promote innovation in show themes and marketing to increase gate attendance and public engagement.
  • Advocate for resources that help smaller clubs remain sustainable and successful.

3. Leveraging a Legal and Professional Background

With a background in law, I can offer a legal analysis of CFA rules and Bylaws and their application. This experience allows me to look at CFA policies through a lens of fairness, clarity, and long-term impact, ensuring that our regulations protect the integrity of the fancy while remaining practical for the people on the ground.

Q & A

Please feel free to email me at mboyd@melody4region7.com with your questions!

The biggest challenges we face in Region 7 are the rising costs of producing shows, exhibitor burnout, and the need to bridge the gap between long-time exhibitors and newcomers.
Suggested ideas and plans:
• Show Production Support. Create a committee from members of show producing clubs that can share resources / information on how to best hold a show, e.g. how to find the best venues, marketing strategies, vendor contacts, navigating the financial aspect of show production.
• Bridging the gap between long-time exhibitors and newcomers. Have more interaction between new exhibitors and long-time exhibitors. For example, we could start an initiative of benching suggestions at shows so that new exhibitors can be benched near established exhibitors so established exhibitors can share their knowledge and experience.
• Bringing in new exhibitors. CFA currently has a New Exhibitor program. We would work together with the Committee and suggest strategies to bring in new exhibitors. For example:
• Promote the Household Pet (HHP) Class: Many people start showing via the HHP class. This should be promoted to the general public so they know this is an option if they want to show their pet.
• Newcomer Welcoming Committees / Specific Welcoming Booth: Implement a standard "Ambassador" role a show - someone would be specifically designated to greet the public at shows, give tours, explain what is happening in the rings, explain how people can register their cats and enter shows, etc.In addition to the above, we would work closely with the Region 7 clubs to create a more active digital presence:
• Modern Digital Presence: Assist clubs in building their club Facebook pages and utilizing social media to promote more awareness about the club’s shows and the cat fancy as a whole.

Having a great idea is only ten percent of the job; the other ninety percent is execution. What will make my ideas succeed is the specific experience I bring to the table. I'm taking the practical, boots-on-the-ground experience of organizing shows and interacting with show managers and exhibitors and combining this with my analytical, implementation skills to turn these concepts into actual, enforceable policies.

It’s not just about new ideas; we need a new level of follow-through, and that is what I will deliver.

I’ve heard the question of whether I have “enough” experience for the Regional Director role. To me, leadership isn't just about how many years you’ve been in an organization; it’s about the energy, legal professional standards, and results you bring to the table right now.

In the past year alone, I’ve navigated the logistics of organizing events like the A Mew Hope Galactic Cat Show and the Fort Worth Cat Club show in Region 3. Furthermore, for the last five years, my team and I have organized the New Vision Spring Spectacular – Florida’s end-of-season show.

Beyond show management, I have spent the last three years actively promoting the cat fancy on social media, achieving engagement and growth results that are unmatched by any other cat association. This modern, results-oriented experience is exactly what Region 7 needs today.

I am an active exhibitor, I am 'in the trenches' with you every weekend, and I intend to apply my legal background to help Region 7 and the CFA achieve a new level of transparency and accountability. I’m not just looking back at where we’ve been—I’m doing the work today to build where we are going tomorrow.

When it comes to managing a territory like CFA Region 7, "muscle" isn't just about being tough—it’s about having the professional endurance and the backbone to handle the logistics, the personalities, and the high stakes of the cat fancy.

  • Legal & Administrative Strength: My legal background gives me a specific kind of 'muscle' that is vital for a Regional Director. I am trained to      parse complex board motions, navigate CFA’s constitution, and ensure our region’s voice is backed by sound logic and clear communication. I won't  just sit at the table; I will be an effective advocate who understands the fine print.
  • Proven "In-the-Trenches" Experience: I’m not just a name on a      ballot; I am an active producer. From managing the logistics of the New      Vision Spring Spectacular to the A Mew Hope shows, I know exactly what it takes to get a show off the ground, manage a budget, and  solve problems in real-time. I have the organizational stamina to support our clubs when they face venue issues or rising costs.
  • A Breeder’s Perspective: As a Bengal breeder, I understand the high stakes of our hobby. I know the dedication it takes to maintain a cattery and have a successful breeding / show program.  My 'muscle' comes from a place of shared experience—I am committed to fighting for transparency and fairness because I am right there on the show bench with you.

Region 7 doesn't need a figurehead; it needs a working director who can handle the heavy lifting of regional administration while keeping an eye on the future. I have the professional background and the personal passion to do exactly that.

Running for the CFA Region 7 Director is a significant commitment to the fancy, and my goals center on modernization, transparency, and grassroots support. If elected, I will attempt to address the following actionable plans to the best of my abilities:

1. Enhancing Communication and Transparency

The bridge between the Board and the regional membership must be strengthened.

  • Town Hall Meetings: Host regular virtual town hall meetings to provide      direct updates on Board decisions and, more importantly, to listen to the      concerns of club members and exhibitors.
  • Regular  Regional Newsletters: Moving beyond basic announcements, implement digital newsletters (and social media updates) that highlight upcoming shows, rule changes, and local club successes.

2. Supporting Clubs and Show Production

Our shows are the lifeblood of Region 7, but rising costs and venue challenges are real hurdles.

  • Resource Sharing Hub: Create a regional "playbook" or digital library      containing vendor contacts, sponsorship templates, and marketing materials to help clubs host shows.
  • Mentorship for New Show Managers: Pair experienced show managers with those from smaller or newer clubs to ensure the longevity of our event calendar and  maintain the high standards Region 7 is known for.

3. Youth and Newcomer Outreach

To ensure the future of the cat fancy, we must actively recruit and retain the next generation.

  • Junior Showmanship Focus: I plan to work with clubs to try and provide more support and recognition for junior exhibitors.
  • "Newbie" Ambassadors: Try and implement an ambassador program at shows where designated members are available to guide the public and new exhibitors through the show.

4. Financial Responsibility and Growth

  • Sponsorship Development: Try to help the region seek out non-traditional corporate sponsors (pet tech, travel, and local businesses) to offset the costs of regional awards and events.
  • Legislative  Advocacy: Utilizing my legal background, I will keep the region      informed of local and state legislative issues that impact breeders and      owners, ensuring we have a proactive voice in local government.

I am dedicated to ensuring that Region 7 remains a leader in the CFA through innovation and a deep respect for our traditions.
